This Friday…

The Brian Jonestown Massacre is arriving to Turner Hall Ballroom between stops at Minneapolis’ Fine Line and Chicago’s Metro, and the neo-psychedelic band is already creating a pre-show buzz, thanks to their notoriously rowdy live performances (deja vu on the recent Black Lips show?). Erratic and talented singer/guitarist Anton Newcombe pretty much perfectly documented how ‘far-out’ he and his band mates have been and will be in the 2004 film DiG! which partnered them up with fellow genre and ‘tude pros, The Dandy Warhols.

Having featured scores of former band mates such as Sune Rose Wagner (the Raveonettes), Peter Hayes (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club) and Joel Gion (The Dilettantes), the Brian Jonestown Massacre is a forever-changing mass of droning instruments and attitude. The band’s latest release, My Bloody Underground, is supposedly a tribute to My Bloody Valentine and The Velvet Underground and is the first Brian Jonestown Massacre album in over four years.

Catch The Brian Jonestown Massacre along with The Flavor Crystals at the Turner Hall Ballroom (1034 N. 4th) at 8 p.m. All-ages.

One Response to “This Friday…”

  1. T.J. Fackelman Says:

I was fortunate enough to see BJM at Lollapalooza when they performed in ’05 and it was a great show full of highs and lows (too much standing around between songs due to soundbleed from another stage). Joel Gion, no longer banging the tambourine, was running around on stage recording the whole thing on video, and BJM even performed with Dandy Warhols later that night. Overall highlight was listening to Anton bitch at Dashboard Confessional over and over throughout the midday set, because of the soundbleed from their stage. At one point, Anton explained that we don’t need contraceptives anymore, we can just put pictures of Chris Carrabba up over our beds…Wish I could remember the whole diatribe. Used to have a bootleg of the show. Anybody have a copy?
