TGIT: Our Weekend Picks!

See, hear and speak about music WMSE-style

The weekend is always a lucrative time for mining extracurriculars in the city of Milwaukee. This particular one is no exception. We’re throwing you a couple of choices — try to catch at least one:

Thursday, August 21st
MSE Fest Kick-Off Party @ the Todd Wehr Conference Center, 8 p.m.
(1047 N. Broadway)

WMSE knows that music makes the world go ’round, so it’s captained HMS Milwaukee into motion for a weekend filled with all things made prettily audio-visual.

Set sail with White, Wrench, Conservatory, El Gordo, Fable and the World Flat and DJ Madhatter at the Todd Wehr Conference Center, and bust out those full-fledged sails for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, where the weekend waters will be filled with bands, dance parties, 7″ release soirees and all the information any aspiring matey, er, musician could ever crave on what it takes to get one’s sea-legs/band-legs. More information at, or stay tuned to Fan-belt. We’ve got more information for you, and maybe some of those arm float-ies to boot.

Friday, August 22nd
Decibully/The Celebrated Workingman/The Championship @ Turner Hall Ballroom, 8 p.m.
(1034 N. 4th Street)

The Celebrated Workingman are living up to their namesake, cause and effect-style by ‘celebrating’ the release of their first full-length after ‘working’ like the ‘dickens’ on their newest, Herald the Dickens. Here’s what they had to say about it on the space of ‘My’: “Opening for our good friends Decibully! but this time, it’s a RECORD RELEASE SHOW!!! Yes, our first album Herald the Dickens will finally see the light of day, and all kinds of surprises will take place at this show! We’re going to try and make some serious memories, here, people”. So, there.

Saturday, August 23rd
Dusty Medical Records 7″ Release Party @ Club Garibaldi, 10 p.m.
(2501 S. Superior St.)

Dusty Medical Records, the fine local label that brought Milwaukeeans the magic of The Goodnight Loving, the Mistreaters, Plexi 3 and Tuff Bananas, is about to up the inches with brand new 7″ releases by Elephant Walk and the Midwest Beat, and celebrate with Decorated Records‘ pals, Jail, who will also join in the 7″ release-age fun. Kinda makes one want to put out a 7″…or maybe just listen to one…
